Her research focuses on the values of wetlands, especially on their role in mitigating carbon emissions and improving water quality. She currently works on studying the role of wetlands in the Great Barrier Reef to ameliorate nitrogen inputs and the feasibility of creating a mangrove protected area with carbon credits in Mexico.
